Greg, Donna, and Ethan Waterman have been working the land in Western New York since long before cannabis was part of the conversation. Dairy cows, farmers markets, a retail greenhouse — the Waterman family has spent half a century learning how to grow things and adapt with the times. When New York’s adult use cannabis market opened up, it was a natural next step for a family that has always taken agriculture seriously.
Greenside Cannabis is the Waterman family’s cannabis operation, grown out of the same roots that have fed and served this region for generations. It’s not a pivot or a trend — it’s a family that knows how to farm deciding to grow something new.
From Greenhouse to Cannabis
The transition from Waterman’s Greenhouse to cannabis cultivation didn’t happen overnight. Since 2022, the family has been building toward their Adult-Use Microbusiness license, bringing the same careful, hands-on approach to cannabis that they applied to everything else they’ve grown. A microbusiness license means they handle cultivation, processing, and distribution themselves — a small operation by design, focused on doing things right rather than doing things at scale.
